mcgruffThe mission of the Decatur Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit is to assist citizens of our community to help reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime and to inform citizens how they can assist law enforcement with information, yet remain anonymous.

The Crime Prevention Unit is involved in several different areas that assist and work with the citizens of the Decatur community. Our Crime Prevention Officer is involved with NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH programs throughout the community. Many of these programs are just beginning and others are established and remain active. This officer also speaks to groups throughout the year on several different topics such as self protection, residential security, con games, fraud and home repair and other scams.

DECATUR AREA CRIME STOPPERS is also managed by the Crime Prevention Unit. Crime Stoppers has been established so that citizens having information on a felony crime in the Decatur, Macon County area can give that information to law enforcement personnel and remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of a person involved in a felony crime in Macon County. Crime Stoppers wants your information, not your name.
