The Crime Analysis Unit originated in 1990 and is staffed by Crime Analyst Janice Frankovich and Crime Analyst David Pruitt.

The unit’s main function is to act as an information conduit. The group of participants in the communication network grows on a daily basis. We collect, collate, analyze and distribute information on crime patterns, trends, and possible suspects. It is our goal to share intelligence data with both internal and external users; all to aid in the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the criminal element. Citizens can also readily access information related to crime incidents, accidents, or arrests in Decatur via dpdconnect.com

The Crime Analysis Unit is also responsible for ensuring that sex offenders, murderers and violent offenders against youth are in compliance with the Sex Offender Registration Act, as well as the Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Act. The unit maintains the database and archive information related to these registrants and coordinates with the Illinois State Police in tracking down those that have failed to meet their registration requirements. Information associated with the registrants is available to the public via the Illinois State Police web site.

Any questions should be directed to the Crime Analysis Unit (217) 424-2723.
