Decatur Fire Department Mission Statement

To promote life, safety, and property conservation for the citizens of Decatur, Illinois through compassionate, professional service.

The Decatur Fire Department has a total of seven fire stations located throughout the city. There are six engine companies, two truck companies, a command vehicle, two hazmat response vehicles and two boats. The reserve fleet consists of two engines, and a ladder truck. The seven stations are staffed by 107 firefighters. In 2023, the fire department responded to 14,091 calls for service. Additionally, the fire department conducted nearly 600 fire safety inspections, presented countless fire and life safety educational programs, while also carrying out all the tasks needed to maintain a state of readiness. The department has a Class 2 ISO Rating.
