Councilwoman Dana Ray is a native of Decatur and works as a family physician at the Community Health Improvement Center. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1991. While in high school she joined the U.S. Army Reserves. She served at the reserve centers in Peoria, Springfield and Decatur at the 687th Quartermaster Battalion. She served as Communication Sergeant for her unit and supervised the communication area for the battalion. Dana served in the military for 12 years.
Dana began her formal education at Richland Community College. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1995 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. While attending Illinois State University she served on the Black Student Association, was certified as an HIV/AIDS Educator with the American Red Cross, and a peer educator. She also worked as a residential drug counselor for Chestnut Health Systems.
She participated in the SIU MEDPREP program in Carbondale, Illinois which provided her the preparation to be admitted to SIU School of Medicine. While in medical school she was a member of the Christian Medical Association, Student National Medical Association, American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. She also taught in the Principle Scholars Program. She graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Ray’s residency in family medicine was completed in Decatur at the SIU Family Medicine Program. She completed her residency in 2006 and currently works at C.H.I.C. Clinic in Decatur. Recently, Dr. Ray has served as a contributing medical writer to a magazine.
Dana was licensed as a minister of the Gospel in May of 2003 by Bishop G.E. Livingston at Life Changers Church. She has served in several areas Director of Evangelism, Director of Worship, and Ministerial Liaison. She now serves as Director of Personal Development and Outreach Director of Life Changers International Ministries. She was ordained in March of 2009.
Dana married Donald Dotson on a sandy beach in St. Thomas on August 22, 2006. She now has a beautiful step-daughter, Danielle Dotson.
