Intersection, Lane and Road Closures

The following lane and road closures have been posted by or reported to the city’s Public Works Department.  Closures can result from work being done in the street, the street and lane closed for safety reasons as private contractor perform work or are provided by outside agencies, such as IDOT or the Macon County Highway Department, that may affect travel in and around Decatur.

Please reduce speed and follow all signs in the work areas.

Lane Closure

22nd Street

AECOM will be preforming a bridge inspection on Garfield bridge beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the two outside lanes of 22nd Street at Garfield Ave Bridge starting at 7:30 a.m., and will shift to the middle lanes being closed when the work on the outside lanes are finished. Work is expected to be complete by 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Motorists should slow down, use extreme caution and should expect delays through the work zone. Garfield Avenue

AECOM will be preforming a bridge inspection on Garfield bridge beginning Wednesday, January 20, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the two outside lanes of Garfield Avenue at the bridge over 22nd Street starting at 7:30 a.m., and will shift to the middle lanes being closed when the work on the outside lanes are finished. Work is expected to be complete by 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Motorists should slow down, use extreme caution and should expect delays through the work zone. Martin Luther King Jr Drive

Ameren Illinois will be removing wire from Ameren T-line on Martin Luther King Jr Drive beginning December 2020. During this closure, one lane will always be open, however, the area of the closure will shift as the contractor makes their way down the work zone. All lanes will typically be opened back up at the end of each work day.  The closure is expected to last from December 2020 through February 2021. Road Closures

200 block of West Garfield

City Crews will be performing tree removal in the 200 block of West Garfield beginning Thursday, January 14, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the 200 block of West Garfield Avenue starting at 7:30 a.m., and will continue to approximately 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021. Westbound traffic will turn right on North Church and Eastbound traffic will turn Left on North Union. Signs will be present to direct traffic. Zion Chapel Rd – Macon County Highway Department

The City of Decatur received the following press release from the Macon County Highway Department:

PRESS RELEASE

The bridge on Zion Chapel Rd. in Blue Mound Township is closed due to structural deficiencies. It is closed between IL Route 48 and CH 29 (Boody Rd.) and will remain closed until bridge replacement.

Effective today, August 3, 2020.
