Intersection, Lane and Road Closures

The following lane and road closures have been posted by or reported to the city’s Public Works Department.  Closures can result from work being done in the street, the street and lane closed for safety reasons as private contractor perform work or are provided by outside agencies, such as IDOT or the Macon County Highway Department, that may affect travel in and around Decatur.

Please reduce speed and follow all signs in the work areas.

North MacArthur Road

Entler Excavating will be working on asphalt patching at 3591 North MacArthur Road beginning Monday, October 18, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the east southbound lane at Parson’s School, starting at 6:30 a.m., and will continue to approximately 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021. South Martin Luther King Jr Dr

Ameren Illinois will be working on gas service retirement at 1029 South Martin Luther King Jr Drive beginning Monday, October 18, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of the southbound outside lane, starting at 8:00 a.m., and will continue to approximately 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021. South Franklin Street Road

SAK Construction will be performing sanitary sewer rehabilitation, replacing Bypass Pipe, on South Franklin Street, from Mueller Heights to Fisherman’s Wharf Entrance, beginning Monday, September 27, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the closure of outside northbound lane drop on South Franklin Street, from Mueller Ct and South Shores Drive to Fisherman’s Wharf Entrance, starting at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, and will continue to approximately 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2021. Meadowlark Bridge

Due to the bridge’s declining condition, the City of Decatur has closed the southbound lane of the Meadowlark Drive Bridge  in the Meadowlark Neighborhood effective immediately.

The bridge is located along Meadowlark Drive in between Whippoorwill Drive and Hummingbird Drive. There will be a weight limit of 15 tons posted for the bridge.  No vehicles that weigh more than 15 tons may cross the bridge.

Northbound and southbound traffic will still be permitted to use the bridge, but only one lane will be open. Traffic travelling either direction must yield to oncoming traffic crossing the bridge before proceeding across. Please use caution when approaching the bridge and follow the direction of the signs and other traffic control posted.

This lane closure is in effect until the bridge is replaced, which is schedule for 2022.

Road Closures

Baywood Place

SAK Construction will be performing sanitary sewer rehabilitation, fusing HDPE piping, on Baywood Place, between South Shores Drive and Point Bluff Drive, beginning Monday, September 20, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the work on Baywood Place, between South Shores Drive and Point Bluff Drive, while keeping two way traffic, starting at 8:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2021, and will continue to approximately 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2021. 550 S. Lakeshore Drive

Christy-Foltz, Inc. will be removing and replacing the Lakeshore Pump Station at 550 S. Lakeshore Drive for the Sanitary District of Decatur. This work will cause the total closure of the road at 550 S. Lakeshore Drive starting immediately and will continue to approximately 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2022. Center Street Bridge over Stevens Creek

Sangamo Construction Company will be performing a structure replacement on the Center Street Bridge over Stevens Creek beginning Monday, May 10, 2021, weather permitting. This work will cause the total closure of the Center Street Bridge over Stevens Creek, approximately 725 feet west of West Hunt Street, starting at 7:00 a.m., Monday May 10, 2021 and will continue to approximately 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2022. The Bike path that runs along Center Street Bridge will be redirected down Hunt Street.
