The Patrol Division is the largest of the three divisions of the Decatur Police Department with 110 sworn officers, when fully staffed. It is responsible for all street patrol operations. The officers assigned to the Patrol Division are the highly visible, uniform officers patrolling in marked police cars. These front line officers answer more than 60,000 calls for service a year. Besides answering calls for service, they are responsible for all traffic enforcement efforts and the proactive gang enforcement initiatives.

The Patrol Division is a 24/7 operation with three shifts of officers lead by a Lieutenant and four sergeants. Each shift consists of district officers, traffic officers, K-9 officers and bike patrol officers. Most patrol officers are assigned to districts and work in specific neighborhoods and/or geographic locations. The Patrol Division is most commonly recognized as the backbone of the police department.
