The Decatur Police Department welcomed two new officers into their ranks on 12-31-08, increasing their staffing to 168 officer.  Officer Cody Rose and Tucker Tool were sworn in on 12-31-08 by City Clerk Celeste Harris.

On July 30, 2008 the Decatur Police Department hired 4 new police officers.  The new officers were sworn in on July 31, 2008 in the presence of Mayor Carrigan, Acting City Manager John Smith, police department members, family and friends.  The officers are, from left to right,  Donald Larson, Benjamin Massey, Bradley Hall and Geoffrey McAdams.

   

154 applicants participated in a testing process on August 16th, 2008 at the Decatur Indoor Sports Center.  The testing consisted of both the physical and written portions.

   

May 7, 2008, the Decatur Police Department hired 10 new officers.  On May 8th, 2008, those officers were sworn in as police officers.  Seven of the officers started the Police Training Institute on May 12, 2008, while the remaining three had previous qualified police training and started into the Decatur Police Department Field Training Officer Program.

   

April 23, 2008, Deputy Chief Todd Walker presents a plaque of appreciation to Det. Andrew Hastings who recently resigned from the Decatur Police Department Emergency response Team after 12 years of service.

   

On January 5th, 2008, the Decatur Police Department held the police applicant testing at the Decatur Indoor Sports Complex ( DISC ).  418 police applicants had an opportunity to test their physical skills. Upon successful completion of those tests, they participated in the written testing.  142 applicants successfully completed the physical testing and took the written test.  49 applicants passed the written testing and their background investigations will be initiated.

   

Detective Ed Root announced his retirement recently, having served this community since 1981, Ed has been involved in various aspects of the department.  27 years of service!  Thanks Ed, enjoy your retirement.

   

Officer Morville retired from the Decatur Police Department on December 30, 2008 after over 20 years of serving the public. Thank you for your service and we wish you the best in your retirement!  Enjoy the warmer weather!

   

Officer Hoelzen retired from the Decatur Police Department on November 15, 2008 after over 29 years serving the public. Thank you for your service and we wish you the best in your retirement!
   

Officer Hoult retired from the Decatur Police Department on November 16, 2008 after over 26 years serving the public.  Thank you for your service and we wish you the best in your retirement!
   
On November 9th and 16th, the Decatur Police Department hosted groups of students from the Decatur Area Technical Academy for a view of the various duties Decatur Police Officers perform.  The officers also reviewed the challenges and rewards a career in Law Enforcement brings.
   

MPO Paul Rigsbey retired from the Decatur Police Department on 11-02-07 after serving the community for 30 years.  Paul’s departing comment was that he truly enjoyed his career with the department and that he enjoyed serving the community as well.  Good Luck and Best Wishes in your retirement Paul.
   

New officers began their career in Law Enforcement by joining the Decatur Police Department on September 12, 2007, with the swearing in ceremony on September 13, 2007.  The officers were sworn in by the City Clerk, Celeste Harris, after brief speeches by the Mayor and Chief of Police.  The officers each are assigned Police Officer Mentors, who will assist them with transitioning into their law enforcement careers.
   

In memory of Sergeant Rick Jones (1954-2007).

Sergeant Jones retired from the Decatur Police Department on September 28, 2007 after serving this community for 29 years.  Sergeant Jones served as a Patrolman, a Detective and as a Patrol Supervisor during his career.

On Saturday, August 18, 2007 the Decatur Police Department attended a community gathering, Unity in the Community, held at New Life Church Of God, located at 1275 E. Division.  During the event Officer J. Jones and Officer M. Livingston spent time meeting and greeting attendee's.  MPO Wise also put on a K-9 demonstration during the event.
