How Can I Arrang a Tour of Police Headquarters?

Block Party / Temporary Street Closing Requests
Regulations - Constraints for Block Parties / Temporary Street Closings
- Applications must be made to the Chief of Police at least 14 days prior to the event.
- Applications shall include:
- Name, address and phone number of sponsor(s)
- Street/area proposed for use
- Signed petition(s) containing signatures of sixty percent (60%) of the occupants of the affected area indicating that they have knowledge of the proposed event and do not object
- Names, addresses and phone numbers of those responsible for clean-up after the event
- Purpose of the proposed event
- If the permit is granted, the event is subject to specific conditions and regulations:
- Sponsors may furnish their own barricades or they may be furnished by the City upon request. If barricades are needed for this event, it will be the responsibility of the sponsors in charge of the event to coordinate the picking up of barricades, setting up, taking down and returning of all road closure material with teh Division of Municipal Services. The Municipal Services Center is located at 2600 N. Jasper and their telephone number is 875-4820. Please allow five business days for the MSC to plan for the event. Barricades are to be readily movable and visible to motorists. After sundown, adequate lighting shall be provided on such barricades.
- Local and emergency traffic shall be given access at all times.
- The consumption of alcohol on a public right-of-way is prohibited.
- "Live" bands or amplified music is discouraged in or near residential areas. Complaints from citizens will be acted upon. Failure to terminate such activity may result in arrest of the responsible party.
- All litter shall be removed and the site restored to its original condition at the conclusion of the event.
- Persons involved shall be liable for damages as stated in the City of Decatur Ordinance Chapter 41, Section 7: "Any person who shall place, or leave, or cause to be placed, or left any encroachment, obstruction or encumbrance in or upon any street, alley, avenue, or sidewalk shall in all cases be liable to the City and to private persons for all injury or damage arising therefrom."
- If at any time a complaint is made of a violation of State or City Ordinance involving the event, permission to hold the event is hereby revoked.
