Police Department Bike Patrol Unit

Bike Patrol Picture The 25 member Bike Patrol Unit engages in highly proactive patrol initiatives in an effort to reduce crime by high visibility patrol, omni-presence, and proactive enforcement activity. Members of the Bike Patrol Unit also use the latest community policing ideas and work very closely with our established neighborhood groups. The advantage held by our bicycle patrol unit is the face-to-face contact with our citizens. This close contact gives the officers and the community, a great opportunity to develop strong working relationships while helping to reduce criminal activity.

Bike Patrol LogoThe Bike Patrol Unit normally works in high crime neighborhoods or the downtown business district. The Unit makes use of their maneuverability to patrol those areas that are more difficult to access with a regular police vehicle. On bicycles, the officers can quickly work their way through parking lots, between buildings and sidewalks. Although they do not generally handle calls for service, they are able to respond to any call, if needed. The bike patrol and the ACT often form “Operation Rolling Thunder” in an attempt to eradicate violent crime in our neighborhoods.
