The Decatur Police Department Auxiliary Unit is a volunteer unit to augment the officers of the Decatur Police Department at community and civic events. As trained professionals they provide the Decatur Police Department with additional resources assigned to a variety of responsibilities. The Decatur Police Auxiliary Unit is responsible for the coordination of special events, parades, and runs authorized by the Chief of Police or Deputy Chief of Police-Patrol Division. This involves both traffic control and crowd control.  Auxiliary officers also assist sworn officers during natural and manmade disasters, special events, roadside safety checks and assist officers on patrol serving as a back-up.

The Auxiliary Unit has a rich history dating back to 1971 working alongside Decatur’s finest men and women.  The Decatur Police Department is extremely proud of the dedication and professionalism of our auxiliary officers and the service they provide the community.
