The Adult Investigations Bureau is comprised of 14 Detectives, 2 Detective Sergeants and 2 civilian clerk typists. There are two (2) operational shifts; 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. All Detectives are on call 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Detectives assigned to the Adult Investigations Bureau are assigned general investigations cases and work major violent case days as well. In the Adult Investigations Bureau works multiple death crime scenes, some of which are classified under UCR statistics as homicides. The Adult Investigations Bureau successfully clears approximately 90% of general investigations and of cases assigned as major violent offenses, which is well above the national average of cleared investigative cases.

Besides Homicide, other types of crimes investigated by Detectives of the Adult Investigations Bureau included Criminal Sexual Assaults, Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Arson, Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft, Forgery and Weapons Offenses.

Detectives assigned to the Adult Investigations Bureau receive training in interviewing & interrogation, evidence recognition, collection & processing, forensic analysis, crime scene photography, court testimony, search & seizure laws, and search / arrest warrant preparation. They also receive annual training regarding the Use of Force, Firearms, Tactics and Response Control Tactics.

Detectives assigned to the Adult Investigations Bureau often work with outside State and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies such as the Illinois State Police, FBI, ATF and U.S. Marshall’s Service.
