Professional Standards Bureau
The Professional Standards Bureau is under the command of Deputy Chief Brad Allen and Sergeant Josh Sheets.
Contemporary society is complex and diverse requiring a highly trained and professional police department to protect the life, property and rights of all citizens. Maintaining the internal integrity of the police department is the primary function of the Professional Standards Bureau.
The Professional Standards Bureau also supports the department goal of providing citizens with factual crime prevention information. The division operates the Crime Prevention Unit. The Crime Prevention Unit provides education to the community on substance abuse, self-esteem, crime prevention and how to help the police apprehend criminals.
The Professional Standards Bureau is also responsible for the Decatur Police Department’s training function, research and development, property and evidence control, grant administration, recruiting, internships, and career development for those employed by the Department.
