Decatur City Council Holds Goals Session
DECATUR - The Decatur City Council on Monday continued the process of setting community goals, each putting forth a number of ideas on which to focus city efforts.
The council continues to work on a number of items such as the securing of additional police space, water supply and strengthening neighborhoods, but also talked about a number of new items on which to focus as work on others continues. There was discussion about adjusting the city’s budget season to more closely align with the setting of the annual tax levy and appropriation and about discovering and working to promote the city’s central identity or niche to potential visitors, businesses, new and current residents.
There was also discussion about how to best deal with vacant lots once demolition takes place.
City staff will now categorize the ideas that were discussed and work to come up with action items for addressing them. The Council will reconvene to continue its discussion about goals Sept. 23.
