City Introduces Direct Pay for Utility Bill Payments
DECATUR - The City of Decatur continues its push to make city government more accessible and user-friendly for residents with the introduction of its direct pay system for city utilities payments.
With direct pay, municipal utilities bill payments will be deducted automatically from a resident’s checking or savings accounts with no further action required on the part of the resident to make the payment. Direct pay is free to all residents and will automatically make deductions on the bill due date, maximizing cash flow while eliminating worry about missed payments or being billed for late fees.
Sign up forms will be sent in the next round of water bills and are also available online at www.decaturil.gov under the public information link and in the city’s water billing department on the second floor of the Decatur Civic Center.
“We will continue to work hard to make Decatur City government as convenient and user friendly as possible,” said City Manager Ryan McCrady. “This government doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to our residents, and it is our job to make sure that we are as easy to work with as possible in helping the community to meet its needs.” Utilities customers will continue to receive a paper copy of bills and should continue to pay bills through traditional methods until the bill indicates that customers are officially on the Direct Pay program. The Direct Pay program joins city online bill pay as another convenient option for making payments. Online bill pay can be used to make payments for the following items, among other things:
- Utility Bills - Customers may pay up to three different utility bills at one time online. This payment option is separate from the Direct Pay system.
- Parking Tickets - Customers will need their ticket number to make this payment and citations that have been filed in court or turned over to a collection agency cannot be paid through this process.
- Building permits, invoice payments for garage spaces, duck blinds, boat licenses and pier permits, weed fines, loan payments and other miscellaneous payments.
