MACARTHUR ROAD BRIDGE REDUCED TO
ONE LANE FOR REPLACEMENT
DECATUR – The MacArthur Road Bridge over Stevens Creek at the intersection of MacArthur and Ash Avenue will be reduced to one lane beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, April 12 for the beginning of a stimulus project to replace the bridge.
Ash Avenue traffic will be prohibited from accessing MacArthur Road during the project. Northbound MacArthur Road traffic will be detoured east to U.S. Route 51 at Mound Road and local Ash Avenue traffic will also be detoured east to U.S. Route 51 during the construction.
The bridge replacement is one of several projects being paid for in part or completely with the city’s allocation of American Recovery and Reinvestment (Stimulus) funding. That list of projects includes:
- $1,239,408 for transportation Infrastructure projects in Decatur which include the Garfield St. Bridge over CNRR ($792,000) and the MacArthur Road Bridge north of Ash Ave. (partial funding of $447,408).
- $768,200 for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program - Funding designated for projects that reduce total energy use, fossil fuel emissions and that improve energy efficiency.
- $1,697,301 – Decatur Public Transit System funding to purchase four 35-foot buses ($1.4 Million), two wheelchair vans ($106,500), and to fund transit facility improvements ($190,801)
- $407,736 – Additional Community Development Block Grant funding.
- $623,309 – Homelessness prevention funding.
