City Council Approves Final Spending
Adjustments, Energy Saving Agreement
DECATUR - The Decatur City Council Monday approved various spending adjustments to close out this year's budget and said “yes” to an agreement expected to save the city almost $30,000 in yearly energy costs.
By the end of July each year, the Council approves an appropriation ordinance detailing planned spending in various categories. In some cases those targets are not met meaning that additional funding must be approved in specific areas.
The city council approved 11 such adjustments Monday night.
In other business the council voted in favor of an intergovernmental agreement with the Decatur Civic Center expected to save the civic center $69,982 in energy costs annually.
Both parties worked with the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center at the University of Illinois to conduct an energy audit on the civic center building. The audit identified several energy cost reduction measures including, but not limited to, lighting and HVAC system improvements, equipment controls and the implementation of energy management policies.
The city leases 41.4% of the building and share’s utility costs in the same ratio, meaning that savings realized by the city – and Decatur taxpayers - will be almost $29,000 each year.
