Press Conference Set To Discuss Macon County Prepares Campaign
DECATUR - The Macon County Prepares Campaign Coalition will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26 at the Macon County Emergency Management Agency, 282 E. Macon Street, on the south side of the Law Enforcement Center facing Ameren Illinois Utilities.
The purpose for the conference will be to discuss the Macon County Prepares Campaign, set to kick-off April 1, 2009 and run through National Preparedness Month in September. The Macon County Emergency Management Agency, Macon County Health Department, ADM, Ameren Illinois Utilities, American Red Cross Mid-Illinois Chapter, City of Decatur, MABAS Division 46, Macon County Community Health Foundation, Macon County Medical Reserve Corps, Macon County Mental Health Board, Richland Community College, and the United Way of Decatur and Mid-Illinois have partnered to develop and implement a community-wide effort to assist individuals and families in Macon County in preparing for emergencies/disasters.
The campaign will focus on ensuring that participants have a Family Emergency Plan and 72-hour kit for their family by the end of the campaign. Each month will focus on a different area of an emergency plan and a different section of a 72-hour kit. Information will be provided to the public through media, employers, websites, and other groups from the community.
We would like to ask that your group/agency/business take part in promoting the campaign to your members/employees. By showing them that we value their safety, we can ensure a quicker recovery in times of emergency for all of us. If individuals are prepared, they will feel more “in control” which will allow them to be able to help themselves, neighbors and friends resulting in a quicker, safer recovery for businesses and our community as a whole.
For more information about the campaign please contact Shannon Comer at (217) 423-6988 extension 1131. A web site is under construction at www.maconcounty-prepares.info and the public can also visit us on My Space and Facebook by searching for Macon County Prepares.
