Human Relations Commission Fair Housing Committee to Host Workshop
DECATUR - The Fair Housing Committee, a special committee of the City of Decatur’s Human Relations Commission, will host a Know Your Rights workshop on Thursday, February 19 at 6:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay, Decatur. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The Know Your Rights workshop will feature the following panels:
- 'Tenant Rights' Elmer Hawkins, Brown, Hawkins, Basola & Mattingly
- 'Choosing a Realtor' George Owrey, Luv Realty
- 'Credit and Your Credit Score' Karen Rossi, Central Illinois Debt Management & Credit Education, Inc.
- 'Mortgage Loan Process' Matt Danbury, Busey Bank
- 'Discrimination Complaint Procedure' Mark Barthelemy, Human Resources, City of Decatur
The Fair Housing Committee is entrusted to ensure equal and fair housing opportunities for every citizen in Decatur by protecting the rights of all those in the protected classes covered by Decatur City Code, Chapter 28, Unlawful Discrimination.
The Human Relations Commission has the duty of making investigations in the field of human rights’ violations under Decatur City Code, Chapter 28 for all those in the protected classes in the areas of unfair public contract practices, employment practices, financial credit practices, housing practices, unequal public places of accommodation practices and noncompliance with the City’s affirmative action program.
