FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GARBAGE HAULERS COLLECTING CHRISTMAS TREES
DECATUR - Local garbage haulers will dispose of live Christmas trees on a resident’s regular yard waste collection day if contacted at least 24 hours in advance.
The live trees should be placed wherever yard waste is normally collected by haulers and all decorations should be removed prior to disposal. Artificial trees or trees that contain tinsel, garland, plastic wrap or other decorations will be collected on regularly scheduled garbage collection days and will count as one of the five bulk items haulers collect from individuals each year.
Beginning Friday and running through January 18th residents can also donate trees to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources which will place the trees in Lake Shelbyville to enhance fisheries. All decorations must be removed and trees can be dropped off at Howy’s Lakeside five miles south of Sullivan on Highway 32 (728-2810) in Sullivan or at the Johnstowne Mall in Shelbyville.
For more information contact your individual hauler or the City of Decatur’s Environmental Standards Technician at 424-2784.
