Funds Available For
Neighborhood Redevelopment Programs
DECATUR — The City of Decatur’s Neighborhood Redevelopment Division will begin making appointments for residents who are interested in assistance through three of the city’s housing programs beginning Tuesday, November 17 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Homeowners who are interested may inquire in the Department of Economic and Urban Development on the 3rd floor of the Civic Center or by calling 424-2797.
The programs through which assistance will be available include:
- The Residential Accessibility Program - The residential accessibility program for persons with physical disabilities provides grants of up to $6,000 for the installation of ADA ramps, lifts and home modifications. Program is open until set aside funds are exhausted.
Contact: John Highcock at 424-2757 - Emergency Grant (owner occupancy required) - This program provides grants of up to $4,500 for repairs of “life threatening” or “sanitation” situations (i.e., hot water heater replacement, furnace replacement, sewer repairs and medically required air conditioning). Program is open until set aside funds are exhausted.
Contact: Don Nave at 424-2865 - Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) - This program is designed for single-unit or duplex residential units occupied by low and moderate-income residents. Homeowners can receive grants of up to a $4,500 for security improvements such as lighting, tree trimming, and security doors. The properties must be structurally sound.

Residents must be homeowners, income eligible and live within Decatur’s city limits to potentially receive funding assistance and all three grant programs will serve as immediate grants. Funding for the programs is provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
