City Neighborhood Improvement Grant
Applications Now Being Accepted
DECATUR - The City of Decatur is now accepting applications for neighborhood improvement grants to help fund events, projects, activities or programs that benefit city neighborhoods.
Grant applications are available in the City Manager’s office on the third floor of the Decatur Civic Center or online. The Decatur City Council has allocated $50,000 for the program as part of it’s ongoing commitment to improve city neighborhoods with applicants required to contribute 25% of the requested grant amount in the form of matching funds or volunteer hours.
This year the city will hold two rounds of grant funding allocating half ($25,000) of the amount of funding available during each round. Grant applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 10.
Any individual or organization located within the City of Decatur that that has no code violations or unpaid obligations to the City is eligible to apply for grant funding. The Neighborhood Improvements Commission will judge applications, the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations will decide which applications to endorse and grants will be awarded continuously as long as funds are available.
The commission shall have the authority to recommend grants for partial amounts of the grant request. Examples of projects that might receive funding include but are not limited to:
- Community gardening projects
- Youth Programs or Activities, including educational programs
- Community capital improvement projects
- Playground equipment
- Community cleanups
- Flower planting projects
- Other projects, activities and events that bring neighbors together for the betterment of the community
