FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEATHER CAUSING SOME REFUSE
HAULING, RECYCLING DELAYS

DECATUR - Heavy snowfall is causing some local garbage haulers to have to alter pickup schedules today but they expect to be back on schedule tomorrow, weather permitting.

Veolia will be picking up yard waste from customers who have called to request this service today but will not be collecting from its commercial customers due to inclement weather. The company, which has the largest number of customers in Decatur, traditionally picks up commercial refuse and residential yard waste on Wednesdays while residential garbage pickups are handled on other days of the week. The company plans to resume its regular pickup schedule tomorrow and yard waste that they are not able to get to today will be collected tomorrow.

Suburban Disposal handles the city’s recycling program and has recycling trucks out on the streets but may be forced to delay some recycling pickups until tomorrow. Company representatives indicate that their trucks are having trouble navigating some of the more hilly areas of the city.
