The City of Decatur passed a 2% tax on prepared food and beverages and alcoholic liquor effective November 1, 2002. The tax is locally administered and is in addition to the 8% general sales tax rate.

The City of Decatur’s hotel use tax rate has been at 6% since September, 2002. The tax is locally administered. In addition to the City’s hotel use tax, the State of Illinois collects a 6% hotel tax.

The general sales tax rate within the City of Decatur is 8%. Sales tax is collected by the state and the City’s share is distributed monthly. There is no local City tax imposed on qualifying food and drugs, vehicles, boats or trailers.
