City of Decatur City Manager's Office
Ryan P. McCrady was appointed Decatur City Manager October 20, 2008, marking the next step in a career spanning almost 15 years in local public service and private finance.
Mr. McCrady most recently served as the County Administrator for Sangamon County where he oversaw budgets totaling more than $100 million, managed countywide economic and capital development and handled the reorganization of county government that saved taxpayers millions of dollars in annual operating costs.
In Decatur, the manager oversees the delivery of public services from a city government with a budget of $123 million made up of eight different divisions — Economic and Urban Development, Police, Fire, Water Management, Financial Management, Legal, Management Services and Engineering and Infrastructure. The Mayor and City Council serve as the all-important leadership team for the city, determining annual spending and setting goals, policy, and direction that meet the needs of the community. The Mayor and Council also focus on major projects and long-term considerations such as community growth, land use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing, and strategic planning and supervise the manager’s performance.
"I am excited to be in Decatur and ready to begin serving the residents of this community," said Mr. McCrady. "There are a lot of great things happening in this city while at the same time we are facing issues that are common to communities across the country."
"Whether it be through addressing neighborhood needs or increasing and improving water supply, both I and my staff are prepared to do whatever it takes to continue making Decatur a great place to live, work and play both for current and prospective residents."
