The Decatur City Council honored the Decatur Police Auxiliary Unit at their meeting on December 1, 2008.   A proclamation was presented to the City Council, which recognized the unit for their contributions to the City of Decatur and the Decatur Police Department.  After the proclamation was read, Mayor Michael Carrigan signed it and stated "You are among the many unsung heroes of this community".  Each Officer then came forward and Mayor Carrigan presented them with a Stephen Decatur medallion and thanked them for their service.  The Auxiliary Unit contributed over 7300 hours of volunteer service to the Decatur Police Department and the City of Decatur in 2007.
